Learning Objectives

One hour audio where Jennifer Wood, an infertility nurse with Shady Grove Fertility for 15 years and currently the remote trainer and educator for clinical operations and integrations; and Dr. Angela Lawson, infertility psychologist specializing in reproductive and sexual trauma and aAssociate Professor in the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Psychiatry at Northwestern University discuss how reproductive medicine must adapt to work with individuals from various cultures, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientation, and gender identity. This sensitivity is essential for successful infertility treatment. 


Participants will be able to:

  1. List 3 reasons it is important for infertility nurses to be sensitive to differences in the needs of patients who seek treatment.
  2. State 2 reasons why infertility nurses might struggle with sensitivity in the infertility setting.
  3. Explain why the infertility experience is often hard for the partner of the patient.
  4. Identify 3 reasons why seeking infertility treatment can be hard for LGBTQ+ patients.
  5. Recognize how religious beliefs can impact a willingness to seek and cope with infertility treatment.
  6. Describe 2 ways that race or ethnicity impacts a patient's approach to infertility treatment.
